Because it’s the best place in Victoria for oldies. Its got the best medical care, twelve trains to Melbourne. It’s the 24th place I’ve lived in – this the best, especially for old age! It used to be the most unfriendly town but its different now! We don’t need the town polluted with more pokies.

It’s a friendly town, close enough to reach the sea, snow, Melbourne and for work it is central to several towns. I have been here thirty years.

Low crime, peaceful environment. Wealthy social standing
Small town with a big, traditional community. A place that so many admire (and envy!). Safe place for us and our kids with a low crime rate. And beautiful heritage buildings that should be protected.
Railways and a wide variety of shops, which will change if pokies arrive.
Our world is quickly evolving and changing – technology. Discoveries in science, modern this, modern that. Castlemaine however has history, and its character is reflected in this. Change is not always for the best – our heritage is valuable – respect it and protect it.
Picturesque – (both natural and man-made including the Architecture!) not too expensive, good transport, and close to Melbourne. Diverse range of people, etc. etc. etc.
